Re: The 2025 Summer Season
Dear Members of Greenbrier Pool:
As the end of the year approaches, the Board of Directors of Greenbrier Pool Associates, Inc. (the “Board”) takes this opportunity to express its heartfelt gratitude for your involvement and support. The pool and its members shared a fantastic 2024 summer season! This was reflected in several fun-filled holiday cookouts and events; the high energy victories of our growing Swim Team; and the great vibes and camaraderie in and around the pool.
Now that we’ve ensured that Greenbrier Pool is winterized properly, the Board is looking forward to next year. The summer of 2025 will mark a significant milestone in the pool’s history. Established in 1955, Greenbrier Pool and its members will celebrate 70 years of continuous operation and fun in Kanawha City.
Greenbrier Pool is a tax-exempt 501(c)(7) social club. It is wholly supported by charging membership fees, dues, and assessments. Presently Greenbrier Pool has 177 members/families on its books. Like other neighborhood pools, Greenbrier Pool has faced substantial financial challenges in the last decade. This was due, in part, to declining membership; capital expenses for deferred maintenance and upgrades to our aging infrastructure; and the escalating costs of labor and chemicals.
To combat these financial challenges, the Board would like to see the pool’s membership increase by at least 75 members/families in 2025. We hope you will encourage your friends and neighbors to “sign up.” Please spread the word that Greenbrier Pool is the best bargain in town. We formerly charged a $1,000 “buy-in” stock fee for new members. However, this was discontinued by the Board in 2020 to make membership more accessible. The drawback is that it reduced a key revenue stream that traditionally was devoted to making improvements at our aging pool.
We are planning a modest assessment ($100 per membership/family) in 2025. This will support specific projects and upgrades that are required to improve the quality of the pool and to help ensure its long-term sustainability. We’ll share details as the Board finalizes its plans and identifies the specific projects in the coming months.
The good news is, the Board does not plan to increase membership dues in 2025. Membership dues remain vital. They cover employee wages; holiday events; pool and grounds maintenance; utilities and insurance; general upkeep; and contingencies. With rising costs, especially for chlorine and other chemicals, your dues as a sustaining member are more important than ever in keeping the pool safe, clean, and enjoyable.
Please visit the pool’s website www.greenbrierpool.com and Facebook page on November 29, 2024, to take advantage of our special discount on membership dues for 2025! Our Black Friday discount offers a fantastic opportunity for you to renew your membership early and save.
The Board is excited to begin another successful season in 2025, filled with opportunities to connect, relax, and enjoy all the pool has to offer. We thank you again for your continued support and dedication to our community.
If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please don’t hesitate to connect with the Board. You may email President Jon Anderson at greenbrierpoolwv@gmail.com, and he will circulate your message to the Board. Your input is invaluable as we plan for Greenbrier Pool’s 70th year.
Wishing you a Happy Holiday Season,
The Board of Directors of Greenbrier Pool Associates, Inc.
P.S. As we plan for the pool’s 70th Anniversary, we’d love to obtain copies of your favorite “pool pics” from the last 70 years for social media posts and marketing. Please feel free to email them to Jon.
